On Children

On Children
Kahlil Gibran

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let our bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

To dream...to struggle.

For an eight-year-old child who has long been abandoned by his family and for most of his years has lived by the leftovers of city-restaurants and the coins of passers-by, it is amazing how his innocence still leave him hopeful for a bright tomorrow. His drawing in the piece of paper he was carrying gave his little dreams and wishes away- a family, a home and a place with trees and flowers he can play in with his playmates. In his drawing, the sun was burning bright and the people were smiling happily, This was a reflection of the kind of world he was dreaming for himself- a world where we would never grow hungry, a world where there is a bright future for children like him- the kind of world he would only live to see in his dreams.

Even for the majority of our youth lucky enough to be in school and are claiming a future for themselves are slowly being robbed of their dreams. What with the continued cut on the education budget allotment for the past twenty years, more and more students are being forced out of school because of the sky-rocketing increases of tuition, miscellaneous, and laboratory fees. Education then has become the privilege of the rich and a distance dream of the poor. JUst as the land is to the landless, as economic justice and secure employment is to the worker and as freedom from poverty and oppression.

And yet, we keep on dreaming, just as the child does, for these dreams are also visions, Visions that one must have to continue on with the struggle. The struggle for a society which will give every family a change to prosper and not just a few, a society which will allow everyone to enjoy the fruits of their labor and a society which prioritizes the needs of the masses.

The dream may seem distant now, but with every year that passes is a year closer to the dream.

Latin American songs

A friend of mine sent me a link of a Cuban singer Maria Salgado. I found her music genre really interesting because I think she has combined Latin American music with Middle Eastern beat. I could be mistaken though. You can check out her songs on this site http://www.deezer.com/track/camino-del-olvido-T1871300

Murder is a crime

Why oh why do people tend to murder my name?
There are only four letters in my name but people still say it incorrectly.
It's Lee-Rah and not Lie-Rah. Please.

St. Peter's College of Ormoc

I've read on SPC's profile page on facebook that the Order of Benedictine (OSB) nuns will return the school back to the church and that the church will have the SVD priests manage the school. SPC will be formally known as University of San Carlos - St. Peter's College Campus. Effective on 2015.

Hmmm...I don't know how the SVDs will run the school. If this will bring progress for SPC and the students, then why not chocnut? But personally, I prefer the Benedictines. Ora et Labora.
